Often described as the American author’s most mature work, the two-act drama is set in 1940s Mexico where a defrocked priest with a penchant for young girls seeks refuge from the world at a down-at-heels coastal resort run by an old friend. Refuge is also sought there by a New England spinster and her “97 years young” poet grandfather who have seemingly come to the end of the road of their world travels as the grandfather attempts to complete his last poem. In the rainforest as a storm threatens the resort, redemption and human connection are possibly at hand for all — including the titular iguana — in unexpected ways. Directed by Steve Doke.
